Words of spiritual encouragement can remind us that we are always connected to a divine and loving power, even in times of darkness. These encouraging words can help us keep faith that we are never alone, even if we may sometimes feel that way. We are always joined to, and supported by, the divine life force which flows through every one of us. We only need to break through the barriers of doubt and fear in order to experience the power and loving energy that are within us.
Words of spiritual encouragement can take the form of a mantra, a single word or phrase that we repeat over and over to dispel negative thoughts. One the most powerful ways I have found of overriding fear, doubt, worry, and negativity is to repeatedly utter the words ‘thank you.’ These simple and powerful words of gratitude and recognition sweep away the barriers between our conscious minds and the divine life force that is within and around us all. Other mantras that can be effective include phrases like “all is well.”
Words of spiritual encouragement help us to accept that we are divine, and that our external circumstances do not define us. Each of us is a miraculous creation of the Universe, and a human being is as magnificent as any of the wonders of nature. Saint Augustine noted that, “People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering.”
We don’t need to look outward for a higher spiritual being, that Being is within us. We are inseparable parts of the great whole. The power that creates life, performs miracles, makes the sun shine and the grass grow is the same power we each contain. The Dalai Lama tells us, “This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple.”
Our lives have meaning and purpose. The greatest purpose is to give and receive love, and to allow the love of the Universe to flow through us to those around. Words of spiritual encouragement remind us that we also have gifts and abilities that we are here to express and share. According to Osho, “Each person comes into this world with a specific destiny. He has something to fulfill. Some message has to be delivered, some work has to be completed. You are not here accidentally- you are here meaningfully. There is a purpose behind you. The whole intends to do something through you.” Eckhart Tolle tells us, “You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are!” Words of spiritual encouragement indeed!
Our lives are designed for us to learn and grow and to live fully and joyfully; embracing and expressing more of our divine essence as we journey through life. There is meaning and purpose to everything in life. We live in an intelligent and loving Universe. Although we may not understand, from our limited human perspective, why things are happening, every experience can offer opportunities for learning and growth.
Ram Dass tells us, “Everything in your life is there as a vehicle for your transformation. Use it!” Deepak Chopra says, “There are no accidents... there is only some purpose that we haven't yet understood,” and A Course in Miracles states that, “Every situation, properly perceived, becomes an opportunity to heal.” M. Scott Peck says that, “The great awareness comes slowly, piece by piece. The path of spiritual growth is a path of lifelong learning. The experience of spiritual power is basically a joyful one.”
With the divine support and guidance that is within us, there is nothing we cannot handle in life. I love this quote from Mother Teresa; these are truly words of spiritual encouragement with a touch of humor! "I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much."
As beloved children of the Universe, we are powerful and worthy of blessings beyond most of our imaginings. Eileen Caddy tells us, “Expect your every need to be met. Expect the answer to every problem, expect abundance on every level.” According to Ben Sweetland, “The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car... a teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they get little.” Let’s roll out the heavy machinery and start joyfully claiming the abundance that belongs to us all.
Some of the most vital words of spiritual encouragement tell us that we are loved, and that in fact, we are love itself. Saint Augustine said that, “He who is filled with love is filled with God himself.” We are all filled with love, and in order to experience that love, we need to allow ourselves, with divine support, to dissolve the barriers that our learned beliefs create between us and the love that is the essence of who we are.
