Words of Inspiration to
Make Your Heart Soar

Words of inspiration can come to us from many sources. The trick is to be open to hearing them. We can find inspiring messages in the most unexpected places, as well as the places that we might generally look such as in books and on the Internet.

We can receive the encouragement we need from friends, strangers, children and most of all from the universe itself. Even in the midst of difficult circumstances, an open heart and mind can receive uplifting words or feelings, seemingly out of the blue. Sometimes the very most inspirational messages bypass words altogether, and go straight to our hearts in the form of a feeling of joy or a silent prayer of gratitude for the magnificence of the world around us.

Some beautiful words of inspiration can make your heart sing, and lift your spirits above the everyday cares and concerns that we all face. The following words from Ralph Waldo Emerson are a reminder of the beauty of the present moment. "This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on the yesterdays."

These words from Mother Theresa are incredibly uplifting and inspiring: “Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is bliss, taste it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it.” These are truly words to live by!

Words of inspiration can help you to find the strength and courage you need to keep going, even when you may feel at times that you can’t. The words of Ben Jonson, playwright, remind us of the strength we can discover within ourselves by facing difficult times: "He knows not his own strength that hath not met adversity.”

Powerful messages of inspiration help us realize the incredible resilience of the human spirit; the fact that people can, and do, overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to live rich and joyful lives filled with meaning and purpose. A true hero in every sense of the word is Christopher Reeve who tells us that, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

Other words of inspiration encourage us to look within ourselves for the strength and power that we all possess. According to Thomas Edison, “If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.”

Our internal resources are so much deeper and farther reaching than we dare to believe. Uncovering this great inner wealth is a task that can take time and encouragement. It is indeed the work of a lifetime, and one of the most important things that we can ever do.

I find these words from Andre Gide wonderfully inspiring and motivating: “There are admirable potentialities in every human being. Believe in your strength and your truth. Learn to repeat endlessly to yourself 'It all depends on me'.”

An inspirational quote from Victor Hugo reminds us of the power of our ideas and also the importance of patience and timing. He tells us, “No army can withstand the strength of an idea whose time has come.”

The following powerful words of inspiration relate to self-acceptance, and come from the American spiritual teacher, Gangaji. She tells us that “Who you are, in truth, who everyone is, is whole and perfect and beautiful. And if that can be recognized, then it is possible that self-torture can stop!” For all those of us who are so hard on ourselves (and I am quite certain this is most of us!), these words can act as an effective antidote to our self-torture.

The words of inspiration that speak to your heart and give you what you need in any moment can come to you from many places. Keep your eyes and your heart open to the world around you and the magnificence of nature. Listen to the wisdom and encouragement that comes from the goodness of the human spirit of your fellow beings. Tune into your own connection with the highest power of love, and you will never lack inspiration.
