How Psychology Self Help Can Change Your Inner Landscape

Psychology self help refers to any type of process, practice, or resource that focuses on attaining increased mental and emotional wellbeing without having therapy. Many people want to improve their lives, and at the same time, they recognize that the power to heal, change, evolve, and become happier is a power that they hold within them. Self help resources, such as this site, are about providing the tools and information that can help empower people to create positive change in their own lives.
An extremely important point to note is that psychology self help is not a substitute for professional medical or psychological treatment in the case of severe disorders. If you are suffering from major depression or anxiety, please seriously consider getting help. As well as being a life-long devotee of self help, I am a great advocate of seeking therapy when needed. I have had therapy at various points in my journey, and I would not be where I am today (happy, healthy, and helping others) without it. However, if you are simply at a place in your life where you know that there are better ways to feel and to react to situations, patterns of behavior and thinking that would make you happier, and aspects of your own mind and emotions that you want to understand better, then psychology self help might offer just what you are looking for. My personal passion for psychology self help stems largely from a realization that if everything is functioning well in our inner landscape, then every outer aspect of life is also transformed. When we are suffering from doubt, fear, worry, or insecurity, it is impossible to truly and fully enjoy even an outwardly great life. In my coaching work, I have met people who seemed to ‘have it all,’ or at least have a whole lot of good things going on in their lives. The trouble is that because they were struggling with beliefs, fears, and emotional blocks, they were unable to wholly enjoy all of the wonderful things around them. By embarking on a journey of psychology self help, or in the case of my clients, supported self help, many of them have been able to heal and release a lot of the things that were blocking their happiness, and learn empowered new ways of living. Reading inspiring, informative, uplifting material related to whatever issue is troubling you can be one of the most effective self help strategies. Listening to audio recordings is another extremely powerful way of helping to shift stubborn and troublesome thought patterns, and to install new and powerful beliefs. I also highly recommend using EFT tapping to help clear any fears, negative beliefs, and emotional blockages. One more thing that can be invaluable in any quest to create greater wellbeing is the use of pen and paper, or computer and document. Whether you are pouring out your heart in order to understand and clear emotions, or writing down positive thoughts and ideas to shift your focus, putting things in writing can really help clarify and reinforce whatever you are working on. One thing to note with psychology self help, and any type of personal development, is that it is not a quick fix, nor a miracle cure. It is a process that changes, evolves, and flows. It can take us in directions that we may never have thought of going, and as long as we are alive, there will never come a time when we can declare that we have learned all there is to know, and grown as much as it is possible to grow. This being said, it is indeed possible to achieve radical change with psychology self help, and to transform, over time, any harmful, disempowering, or painful beliefs and patterns of emotion and behavior, as well as learning healthy and uplifting new ways of being. On one end of the spectrum of people exploring psychology self help are those who need to get their inner wellbeing in tune with a pretty good outer reality. On the other side, are those who are unable to create the outer reality that they want to experience, because they are trapped by fears, doubts, or emotional blockages. Bottom line is that, in a way, it really doesn’t matter whether you already have the things in your life that you thought would make you happy, and they aren’t yet, or whether you are still waiting to have the things you want, the first thing to do is to learn to be happy. Once you can manage that, then you will find that you are able to enjoy all the good things in your life, whether or not you have everything you want. You will also be in a position to be able to create, and enjoy more and more of the outer and inner experiences that you want to have. Wherever you are on your journey, and whatever aspects of your life you feel could benefit from psychology self help, more emotional freedom, or increased motivation, I invite you to explore the resources available on this site.
