A Positive Mental Attitude
Can Overcome Limiting Beliefs

A positive mental attitude can help you to soar.

A positive mental attitude is the only thing that can overcome negative thinking and limiting beliefs.

A positive mental attitude is not about being relentlessly cheerful at all times, it is simply about always trying to find the good in any situation. If you look hard enough, there is always some good to be found.

Unfortunately, many people are so used to seeing the negative side of a situation, that asking them to look for the positive aspects is like asking them to do a triple back-flip. They will look at you blankly and say it’s impossible for them. Well, I don’t know about you, but I doubt any amount of physical training would have me triple flipping, but with the right mental training, a positive mental attitude is possible for anyone.

Our most painful and difficult experiences can provide us with the most intensive personal growth and learning. That being said, tough times are definitely not my preferred method of learning. If I could gain the same increases in understanding and knowledge by lying on a beach, then that is absolutely the ‘school of life’ I’d sign up for. Sorry to say though, that for most of us it just doesn’t work that way. Few of us will go through life without encountering plenty of challenges and obstacles. Our job is to overcome these, while at the same time gaining wisdom from our experiences.

To take an example from my own life, my experience with depression has taught me many things. Understanding and learning to live with depression has required much soul-searching on my part. As a result, I have learned so much, both about the condition of depression, and about myself. I have learned to live a happy, healthy, and productive life with depression, and to take control of my condition, rather than letting it control me. I have become more sympathetic as a person and more empathetic to the pain of others. Although I would not have chosen to have depression, I would not trade the lessons it has taught me for anything.

Negative thinking and limiting beliefs are two sides of one bad penny. Negative thinking means focusing automatically on what’s wrong with us, our lives, or a situation, rather than what’s right. Limiting beliefs are the ideas that are lodged firmly in our brains about what is, or is not, possible for us.

We need to realize that beliefs are not facts. There is no evidence that your belief of difficulty, danger, scarcity, or limitation has any truth whatsoever. In fact, in the famous words of Henry Ford, ‘If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.’ Our beliefs shape our reality, not because what we believe is true, but because believing it makes it true for us.

Time and time again, people have shown, and continue to show that the ‘impossible’ can be done. You can bet that these people refused to believe that what they wanted to do was impossible. They knew that if they wanted it badly enough, it was possible for them. They prove to us that a positive mental attitude can overcome all obstacles.

So what’s stopping you from believing that your ideal life is possible? If you think you can, you can!
