To Love Work Is a Choice

To love work is something that can bring you a lot of happiness. The majority of people in the world are involved in some type of employment, whether paid or voluntary. Unfortunately, it does not seem that most people love the work they do.
One solution to being happy in your job is to find work that provides opportunities to express your talents and to do tasks that you enjoy. This is an important part of being fulfilled in your career, but it is just as important to love what you do as it is to do what you love.
Perhaps you have heard the saying that it is more important to want what you get than to get what you want? The essence of this is that we cannot always control what happens to us in life, but that we can control how we respond to what happens.
It is such a human tendency to look for what’s wrong in a situation rather than what’s right, but doing this is a recipe for unhappiness. If you focus on the 5 percent of your life that isn’t going the way you want, you will neglect to appreciate the 95 percent that is going well.
Even if we were in a situation that was only 5 percent good, and 95 percent bad, we could reverse our usual pattern, and focus on the five percent. If you take your attention off the parts of your life, or your work that you don’t like, you get to appreciate the parts that you do like.
If there is not one single good thing about the work you are doing, I really suggest that you would be smart to try and find a different job. Even if it takes time, don’t stay in a job that is impossible for you to enjoy. However, if there are some good aspects to your job, you don’t necessarily need a change of employment to be happy. You just need to choose to be happy where you are.
There will never be a job, a relationship, a home, or anything else in life that is 100 percent perfect, all of the time. Expecting this to happen is a great way to experience disappointment and disillusionment. The key to being happy is to see and appreciate what is good in a situation, and not to dwell on what’s wrong. The less time you spend thinking about what’s wrong with any aspect of your life, the better- unless you are actively improving things and making changes.
If you look at the people in your life that are truly happy, you will see that happiness and fulfillment don’t come from external circumstances. Happiness is a state of mind.
If you make up your mind that you are going to love work, your job can be transformed from a source of frustration to a source of satisfaction. Being happy in your job can also have a huge effect on how happy you are in your life, so in work and in life- choose happiness.
