Life Lessons Can Teach Us So Much
Life lessons are offered by almost every experience that we have. Some of these lessons are small, or act as a reminder or ‘review,’ and others can be huge and life changing. Like with any lessons though, we will only benefit if we have an open heart and mind, and are willing to learn and grow. Without the willingness to learn from our difficult experiences in life, instead of the valuable life lessons that these experiences should be, they can become obstacles, and sources of pain and bitterness. Some of our greatest learning opportunities come from our most painful experiences. One thing that has taught me a great deal in my life so far is depression. Undoubtedly, most of us would not choose these tough teachers, but it seems that the teachers choose us. The choice that we have is whether to learn and grow from these lessons, or to resist and struggle. Embracing the learning in a situation gives a positive aspect to the worst that can happen in our lives. Fighting against the situation only increases the unhappiness it causes us. I like the old saying that if life gives you lemons, make lemonade. If this is your approach to difficulties, you may even begin to welcome the lemons- lemonade is delicious! The more lemons you get, the more lemonade you can make, and the better you will get at making it. You will be able to share it with your friends, and sell some of the delicious lemonade that you have learned to produce from the practice all your ‘life lemons’ have given you. While it is certainly easier said than done to focus on the learning rather than the pain in tough times, it is worth the effort to try. Wallowing in the pain will not make you feel any better- probably worse if anything! A few of the biggest truths that I have learned from both the good and bad experiences in my life, as well as my lifelong passion for reading and study of human behavior are these: • Nothing is ever ‘
as good as it gets
.’
• You tend to get what you
focus on
.
• There is
always a choice
.
• There is
always a way
.
• Despite all obstacles, it is an amazing world.
• Gratitude is a choice.
• Whatever our physical surroundings, we can create our own sense of space.
• Your past determines your present, but you determine your future.
• Applying common knowledge in an uncommon way is the basis of success. It's not magic and anyone can do it. In your quest for success and happiness, www.practical-success-secrets.com offers some valuable advice.
• You can choose to be happy. For some more inspiration on choosing happiness (at any age!), check out
