Living Just For Now Means Embracing the Present Moment

Just for now. Have you ever uttered those words in a situation when you felt that circumstances were not completely ideal, but that you felt you could accept them as a temporary measure? It can be very helpful to realize, and to remember, that in this life, everything is just for now.Accepting the impermanence of everything can really help us to let go, and to fully embrace the present moment. Knowing that what we are experiencing right now is temporary, whether that experience is good, bad, or indifferent, can give us a different perspective of things. If you are in difficult circumstances, it can be challenging to remember that ‘this too shall pass.’ In trying times, it can feel that the situation is dragging on forever, with no end in sight. When times are tough, try to keep reminding yourself that what you are experiencing is just for now. Things will change for the better, and the more that you can believe this, the faster the change is likely to come.
By understanding that unpleasant circumstances are only temporary, and a natural part of the cycle of life, it can also be easier to look for the silver lining. It can really be tough to stay optimistic when you believe that you are trapped indefinitely in a situation that is not what you really want it to be. When you keep the knowledge firmly in mind that this is only a stage you are going through, a challenging level in the game of life, you free yourself to look for the lessons that are always there to help you learn and grow. It is equally important to realize that the wonderful things we experience in our lives are also just for now. By denying this reality, we create fear in our hearts, as well as causing tension, by trying to hold on tightly to things which, in the nature of the universe, will end. We often spoil the experiences that we could be enjoying by grasping them too tightly, or by focusing on the fear of losing what we currently have in our lives. Doing this makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to fully appreciate the blessings we receive. It is one of the most basic realities of life that everything will change, and that everything- in its current physical form- will end. This is not a fact to fear, but to face and embrace. A funny movie that touches on the concept that trying to cling to physical immortality does not work or bring joy, is ‘Death Becomes Her.’ Equal to the reality that everything physical will end is the fact that our essence, or soul, actually is eternal. Although our physical realities are impermanent and will continue to change, your true self is as unchanging as the life-force itself. As much as most of us fear change, the thing we fear most is death. Death is the ultimate change and the end of physical life as we currently know it. Although fearing death is a very natural human reaction, it does nothing to either prevent that which we fear, or to help us live our lives to the full. Living in fear of change, loss, and death restricts our ability to live fully in the moment, and to embrace the richness of life. It is said that those who fear death the most are those who have not truly lived their lives. Don’t let that be your fate. Just for now, decide that you will live your life with passion. And in every fresh moment that you are blessed to experience, make that decision again. Everything in life is just for now, and that is okay, because now is the only thing that really matters or exists. Embrace your life as it is now, and let the universe take care of the rest.
