Joy Quotes Remind Us
to Keep Choosing Happiness

Joy Quotes Joy quotes are phrases that point out, in a memorable way, that life can be filled with delight. In an era when much of the media we are exposed to proclaims doom and gloom, we need as much positive input as we can get!

Quotes about joy can remind us to embrace the wonder of life, and help us to focus on the things that bring us true bliss and happiness. Whether these quotes are well-known sayings from famous people, simple statements that you have read or heard somewhere, original creations of your own, or gems from the mouths of babes, we can all gain tremendous benefit from uplifting words of joy.

Quotes can be a powerful tool as a reminder and reinforcement of the thoughts, ideas, and beliefs that we wish to embrace. We can integrate positive philosophies from inspiring and influential people into our own belief systems. A quote may also clarify, and put into words, a concept that we find hard to define ourselves. Quotes capture important ideas and condense them into bite-sized morsels that we can snack on frequently.

Joy quotes can highlight the power and importance of this great emotion. Mother Teresa said, “Joy is prayer - Joy is strength - Joy is love - Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls,” and according to a Chinese Proverb, “One joy shatters a hundred griefs.” Powerful reminders that joy is pretty potent stuff, as well as feeling wonderful!

Joy quotes can also help us to understand the relationship between joy and sorrow. “He who has not looked on Sorrow will never see Joy,” said Kahlil Gibran. Sorrow can help teach us the meaning of joy, just as we would not be able to fully appreciate the light of day without understanding the dark of night.

We must also open our hearts to both joy and sorrow in order to experience either emotion fully. Jim Rohn tells us that, “The walls we build around us to keep sadness out also keep out the joy.”

Joseph Campbell reminds us that although we cannot eliminate sorrow from the world, living with joy, regardless, is a choice. “ We cannot cure the world of sorrows, but we can choose to live in joy.” By choosing to live in joy, we are by no means belittling the very real sorrows that exist. We are simply accepting that even though sorrows do exist, we can still live joyfully, and as a result, add to the joy in the world rather than adding to the sadness.

Some powerful joy quotes help us understand and remember the sources of joy, and the ways of increasing the delight in our lives.

“Joy is not in things; it is in us.” This quote from Richard Wagner points out that we cannot find joy by looking at external circumstances or material possessions. True joy comes from the deepest part of our beings; we simply need to set it free.

Leo Tolstoy tells us that joy does not come from seeking to be happy, but from seeking to add value to the world around us. “Joy can be real only if people look upon their life as a service, and have a definite object in life outside themselves and their personal happiness.”

Albert Einstein urges us to embrace the joy that comes from endeavoring to understand the world around us. “Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.”

The following joy quotes point out that the best way to increase our joy is by sharing it. Robert Murray McCheyne said, “Joy is increased by spreading it to others,” and according to William Shakespeare, “Joy delights in Joy.”

To live a more joyful life, use some joy quotes to remind yourself often of how important joy is, where it comes from, and how to make it grow. To live with joy is a choice, and one of the best choices we can make!
