Plant a Seed of Intention
June 17, 2010
Forming an intention means deciding on something we wish to have in our lives, and creating a level of willingness to have that thing. In doing so, we plant a seed in the soil of our subconscious minds.Even the germ of an idea of something that we want to have or do, and a thought that maybe we can have it, is enough to plant a seed of possibility within us. A clear and fully formed intention of exactly what we want to have in our lives, coupled with a determination to have it and a conviction that we can have it, is a sturdy sapling rather than a seed. Mostly though, that sapling started as a tiny seed of an idea, wish, or longing. Even before we notice the seed of a wish in our hearts, we can begin preparing the soil that will grow our dreams and goals. We can do this by taking time to increase our sense of self-worth, and to create beliefs that we deserve to be happy, we can have anything we want, and that the only things we ‘should’ do in life are the things that are truly in tune with our hearts and souls. The next step is to begin creating an intention. When you become aware of a vague longing for something in your life, take time to think about the essence of the seed you want to plant. The clearer you can become about what you would like that seed to bring into your life, the more firmly your seed will be planted. It is not necessary, however, to picture the exact color and shape of the petals the blooms on your future tree will have. Sometimes we can get so caught up in minor details that we put a lot of energy into them, rather than into the core of what we truly want to create. Focus on what you would like your tree to provide, such as the shelter of peace of mind, the sturdiness of a sense of security, the light and shade of creative expression. This allows you to nurture the type of tree that you really want to cultivate in the garden of your life, while at the same time letting go of the exact details of how that tree will grow. Once a seed is planted, the speed at which it will grow is largely influenced by how we nurture it. By lovingly and diligently tending to the seed of intention, we can watch it start to take root far more speedily than if we plant and neglect our seed. The water needed by a seed of intention is the continued affirmation that it is good, possible, and even inevitable, that the tree will grow and flourish. We need to tell ourselves constantly that it is okay to have what we want. We often believe, on some level, that we don’t deserve or can’t have wonderful things in our lives. We can either commit to changing these beliefs, or we can live our lives controlled by them. If our lives are being shaped by negative or limiting beliefs, we can hardly expect good and beautiful things to grow for us. The fertilizer that we can nourish our dreams with is conviction, commitment and willingness to take practical, positive steps to allow those dreams to come true. Intention plants the seed, beliefs water it, but without action, there cannot be concrete physical results. These steps need not be big and bold. Even a tiny amount of movement in the direction that we want to go can stimulate growth and momentum, and send a clear message to our subconscious minds that we really plan to have what we say we want. Happy gardening!
