Guided Visualization

Have your say… leave a comment below after you read!

Guided Visualization A guided visualization is a ‘script’ that leads us through a process of creating positive pictures, thoughts and scenarios in our minds. Often a visualization will start by picturing a place of tranquility and natural beauty. This is to get the mind into a state of relaxation and receptiveness to the creative process. We also draw healing energy from our favorite places in nature, and even though it is not always physically possible to be in those places when we need that positive energy, we can always go there in our minds’ eye.

A guided visualization can be very helpful in creating a clear sense of being in the place that we want to picture. Listening to the words can be especially effective, as listening uses less mental effort than reading, and frees the mind to simply go with the images that the visualization provides. Listening to a guided visualization also allows the words to penetrate our minds on a conscious and a subconscious level.

After we have created relaxation and centering in our minds by visualizing ourselves in a tranquil environment, our minds become receptive to the thoughts and images that we wish to instill in them. A guided visualization can then lead us into a scenario that we want to experience in our lives. This may mean picturing ourselves going from our place of relaxation into the environment of our dream home, job or relationship, and seeing and experiencing the important details of that situation.

Another way we can progress with a guided visualization is to picture ourselves seeing, feeling and believing that the things we want to see, feel and believe are, in fact, happening now. We can use these phrases of affirmation to gradually replace the negative beliefs that are at the root of all dissatisfaction and discontent.

An effective guided visualization takes into account both the goals that we want to achieve, and the thoughts and beliefs that are stopping us from reaching those goals. A word of warning is that we can't expect changing these beliefs to be totally quick and painless. A powerful visualization can be very uncomfortable to use at first, and it needs to be given time to work.

If your mind has been convincing you for years that you are somehow flawed and undeserving, then reading or listening to affirmative statements to the contrary can be quite difficult and may even cause intense discomfort. I urge you to persist.

The only way to change old and harmful beliefs is to replace them with new and positive ones, and this takes time and persistence. The good news is that negative beliefs can be changed, and the process of reprogramming your thinking does get easier with practice. After a few days of using a new affirmative verse or visualization, you will probably notice the discomfort easing, and your mind rebelling less against the beliefs you are training it to have.

The following affirmative visualization is one that I wrote for increasing fulfillment, and I invite you to play with the ideas contained. The written version is below, and you can hear the audio version by clicking on the screen directly below.

I am walking on a beautiful path in the mountains. The boughs of tall, strong trees meet in a leafy canopy above me, dappling my path with golden light and shade. A gentle breeze whispers around me, and the air is cool, clear and fresh. I take deep, cleansing breaths of the pure, fresh air, and it fills my body with healing and energizing light and power.

I take time to enjoy the beauty of the flowers blooming all around me and inhale their wonderful fragrance. I listen to the birds singing and am reminded that I too have much to sing about- I am alive and I am filled with the divine life force that flows through each and every one of us. I allow these sensations to fill my heart with joy until I feel I am one with the sturdy trees, the fragrant blooms and the wafting breeze.

Following my path around a bend, I come upon a breathtaking, crystal-clear pool. Stopping at the edge, I gaze into the clear, still water. I see my reflection gazing back at me, and I am overcome with the inner beauty that is reflected. The image I see is not my everyday image as shown by a mirror, but a chance to look into the beauty of my own soul. The wisdom mirrored in the depths of my eyes speaks directly to my heart, and allows me to see clearly that I am amazing- a miraculous creation of the universe.

I am a cherished part of the great whole, and I need only to open my heart to allow this love to flow into and through me. I affirm that I am wonderful- my very life is a gift to myself and others. I accept that I have much to offer, and I have been given many talents and abilities that I use increasingly every day. I allow myself to enjoy and appreciate my talents, and in doing so, opportunities open up all around me.

These opportunities allow me to use my talents for the good of others, and at the same time to gain a wonderful sense of satisfaction. I picture my life unfolding to allow the full expression of my talents. I visualize the outpouring of my creativity. In picturing this manifestation of creativeness, I find myself increasingly inspired and motivated to put my thoughts and ideas into action. Acting on the inspiration that comes to me through an open heart and mind, I gain more and more energy and enthusiasm for the practical application of my talents- the work I was born to do.

My life’s work takes on its own momentum, and my time becomes filled with activities that are meaningful and fulfilling. The joy that my activities bring me spills over into every aspect of my life, and into the lives of all around me. My own increasing fulfillment creates a ripple effect and touches the lives of more and more other people as I live fully and joyfully. I give thanks for everything good in my life and embrace the gifts and opportunities that the universe showers upon me.

I am fulfilled in my work and my life.

If you would like help in creating a guided visualization that is specific to your current focus, and takes into account your own favorite place/s, your goal/s and the thoughts or beliefs that are holding you back, then you might want to take advantage of the service that I am offering.
