Help Us Affirm We Are Blessed

Gratitude quotes remind us of how much we have to be thankful for, and how important it is to cultivate an attitude of gratitude, rather than taking the blessings in life for granted. Developing a prevailing sense of gratitude for life itself and the experiences, gifts, challenges, and lessons that it offers, can make the difference between a life of joy and a life of misery.

The following gratitude quotes point out the importance of appreciating the things we have, rather than falling into the trap of focusing on what we don’t have. Feeling and expressing gratitude not only allows us to enjoy our lives and the wonders of our existence, but prepares us to experience and enjoy even greater blessings.

According to Frank A. Clark, “If a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got, he isn't likely to be thankful for what he's going to get.”

Thornton Wilder says, “We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”

Gilbert K. Chesterton tells us, “When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.”

Some gratitude quotes focus on the most powerful ways to express our thankfulness. These quotes point out that words of gratitude are not enough. To live with gratitude is to embrace, absorb, and express through actions, our appreciation for all we have been given.

W.T. Purkiser says, “Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving,” and the words of John Fitzgerald Kennedy tell us that, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”

Felix Frankfurter states that gratitude goes beyond what we can even begin to express in words. “Gratitude is one of the least articulate of the emotions, especially when it is deep.” When something goes beyond words, the way to express it is in our hearts, and through our actions and prayers.

Some wonderful gratitude quotes tell us the benefits that developing and maintaining an attitude of thankfulness can bring us. As the following quotes express, gratitude can allow us to experience growth, joy, abundance, acceptance, clarity, inspiration, and happiness. What an amazing way to live, and to become centered in a continuous flow of gratitude and ever increasing goodness!

As Eileen Caddy says, “Gratitude helps you to grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter into your life and into the lives of all those around you.” Tony Robbins tells us that, “When you are grateful fear disappears and abundance appears.”

Melody Beattie shares this wonderful perspective on gratitude; “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”

In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, “The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.” Denis Waitley equates happiness with love and gratitude. He says, “Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.”

The next two gratitude quotes remind us to accept, and be grateful for the inspiration and learning that we can receive from others in our journey through life.

Albert Schweitzer says so beautifully that, “At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us.”

Sarah Caldwell urges us to, “Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can - there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.”

This beautiful quote from Elie Wiesel helps us to recognize that out of difficulty and suffering, we can gain an increased capacity for joy and thankfulness. “No one is as capable of gratitude as one who has emerged from the kingdom of night.”

One of the deepest ways to express our gratitude is through prayer, and I love what Meister Eckhart tells us; “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. “

For the gift of life, the gift of love, the gift of learning, and the gift of laughter, I am truly thankful.
