Everything Is Going My Way

Going My Way Everything is going my way. This is a great phrase to utter, but how often do you find yourself saying it? If you are like most people, then probably not nearly often enough!

If you are tired of feeling that nothing is going your way, or even just feeling vaguely dissatisfied with your life, then take some time to read this. See if you can become one of the ‘lucky people’ who declare frequently that life is going my way!

One of the first things to do if you want to feel that things are going just how you want them to, is figure out how you want them to go! This might sound like stating the obvious, but it is quite amazing how many people really don’t have a clear idea of just how they want the various aspects of their lives to be. It is also very common for people to pay more attention to what they don’t want than what they do want.

There is a huge difference between lamenting a lack of social contact in your life, and making a conscious decision that you want to develop more friendships. Deciding what you want can lead to setting goals. If you want more friends in your life, an initial goal might be, ‘I will smile at, and warmly greet five acquaintances today.’ While it obviously takes more than this to create deep and lasting friendships, even getting a couple of genuine smiles in return can give you an inkling of how good you are going to feel as your desire becomes reality.

As you pay attention to what you want to create in your life, and take consistent action towards that goal, it won’t be long before you start to feel ‘my life is going my way.’

It is also a matter of shifting our attention. Why is it that so many of us zero in on what’s wrong, rather than what’s right in our lives? I believe that the reason is two-fold. One factor is that our human nature finds it very difficult to accept and embrace the good in life. Negativity can be very dominant and often creates a bad habit of taking the good for granted and dwelling on the bad. It is all about mind-set anyway, as what we see as ‘bad’ can very often be a blessing in disguise.

Another influence on many of us paying far too much attention to the negative aspects of our lives is social conditioning and the media. We are surrounded by a culture of sensationalism. Living happily is boring according to popular media. The phrase, ‘if it bleeds, it leads,’ graphically demonstrates how we are encouraged to concentrate on the tragedies of life. It is important to realize the impact of this trend on our psyches, as well as the fact that these tragedies actually account for a tiny percentage of the events in our world, whereas miracles abound constantly.

If we can take our focus off the things we perceive as wrong, and look at how many incredible blessings surround us, it becomes easier to believe and say ‘life is going my way!’
