Get What You Want If You Focus Your Thinking
The most certain way to get what you want, or for that matter what you don’t want, is to focus on that thing. There is a whole way of thinking called the ‘Law of Attraction’ that basically states you will get what you focus on. Although the more scientifically minded among us might argue that this cannot be proven, most of us will have had personal experience sufficient to think that there might be some truth to it.
Think of a time that you wanted something really, really badly. For some reason, you were filled with confidence, and were convinced that you would have what you wanted. Did you get it? I’m betting you probably did. Of course it doesn’t always work that way. There are other factors to take into account, including our higher selves wisely preventing us from having things that would not benefit us. But a positive attitude very often creates what we want. Think of the opposite scenario. You go on a date or to an interview with a defeated attitude. ‘There’s no way he is going to like me,’ you tell yourself. ‘This job is way beyond my capabilities,’ whispers your evil twin. Did you get the job or a second date? Unlikely. So, whether or not you believe in the Law of Attraction, or anything metaphysical (beyond our physical reality), you can see how what you focus on can be very powerful. We talk ourselves into behaving certain ways by our ‘self-talk.’ If you tell yourself that you can get what you want, that you are capable, attractive, and smart, you will feel and act more confident. Confidence acts as a magnet for good things. Negativity repels them. To get what you want in life, work on replacing your negative thinking with positive beliefs. Change your focus on what you don’t want to clear ideas of what you do want. It takes some effort to shift our thought patterns. We are conditioned from earliest childhood to focus on the things we want to avoid, rather than the things we want to achieve. We are given reasons why something can’t work rather than why it can. We are told we can’t do things far more often than we are told we can, and we learn to look at what’s wrong with a situation rather than what’s right. Phew, what a terrible bias towards focusing on negative rather than positive. Is it any wonder many of us end up living lives full of things we don’t want? Many people believe that being positive is ‘unrealistic.’ This has no logical basis. There is no evidence that things are more likely to go wrong than right. Actually, the opposite is true. Most of the things we fear never happen, so focusing on fear and negativity is really less realistic than thinking positively. Whether something is good or bad, or right or wrong is all a matter of perception anyway. Taoism states that there is no good news or bad news, only news. If you can focus on what you want, really keep it in the front of your mind and keep your energy and thoughts on that thing, you are much more likely to get what you want. Think of why you can do something rather than why you can’t. Look for the good in what’s happening, instead of the bad. If you really look, you can almost always find something good. Grab hold of that good aspect, and focus on it! Keep your mind firmly focused on what you want. Think about it, dream about it, write about it, talk about it. Focus on your goals, believe that you can have them, keep a positive attitude, and push negative beliefs and thoughts out of your mind. You really can get what you want if you believe you can.
