Following Your Dreams Feels Right
If it feels right, it is. This may sound very simplistic, but there is no better way to judge whether you are on the right path than whether it feels right. Listening to your intuition will tell you, loud and clear what is right for you, but here’s the catch; you have to listen! Most of us are very bad at heeding the advice of our inner voices, and would take the advice of a stranger on the street before we would trust the whispers of our souls. This is a great obstacle to living your life purpose, because the only way you can really know the right path for you is to listen to your heart. When you learn to tune into your intuition, and follow its urgings, life feels right. The listening and trusting is the hard part. To hear your inner voice, you will have to drown out the insistent voices of society, those around you, and your own mind. All these voices are very good at getting us to listen to them. It takes practice and discipline to learn to ignore them and tune them out. Even when you do manage to get really still and quiet, and hear what your heart is telling you, to actually trust and follow its advice is another challenge. Often, the path we truly want to follow, the one that would be right for us, is a path that our rational minds, and everyone around us will scorn. ‘You can’t be serious!’ ‘You don’t have the brains, education, perseverance.’ ’That is an impossible industry to succeed in, it’s so competitive.’ ‘You must be crazy, that’s so dangerous.’ ‘How could you give up a stable career for a pipe dream?’ And on, and on it goes. How much of this kind of negative feedback have you had in response to your dreams? And it isn’t only other people that are so critical. We are often our own worst enemies. So how do you overcome all these negative voices that can so easily hold you back from following your dreams and doing what feels right? For a start, you can logically counter all of these negative ideas. Declare that you are serious, and you do have brains. What you lack in education can be made up for with life experience, and you will learn as you follow your goal. You do have perseverance, it’s just that other people’s goals for you aren’t worth persevering with! There is no such thing as an industry that is impossible to succeed in, challenging perhaps, but definitely not impossible. Life is dangerous, but you have far more to lose by denying your passions than by taking a chance within reason. As for a stable career, tell them they can stick that notion in their pipe and smoke it. In these economic times, stability is a fairytale. Once you have firmly rebutted every negative piece of nonsense that has come your way, start thinking positive. Affirmations can be very useful and powerful. Take a negative statement, and turn it into a positive one. Put it in a way that states that what you want is already happening, for example, I am now creating a fulfilling and rewarding career by following my passions. And then repeat it. Constantly. Drown out those negative voices with your new mantra. Repeat it in your head, and aloud when you can. Write it down and read it over and over. Take a long walk and match the words of your affirmation to the pace of your footsteps. It’s not rocket science, and it works! You just need to be persistent. The best part is that you don’t even have to believe what you are saying. Your subconscious mind will believe it, and set about guiding you to the steps you need to take to make your dream a reality. It’s all simple stuff. Stuff you’ve probably heard many times in many ways. The trick is to use it. Make up your mind that you are going to live your life in the way that feels right. Listen to your heart. Drown out the negative voices, and turn the volume up loud on the positive ones. And in the immortal words of Nike, just do it!
