One thing that following your purpose will definitely ensure is the development of a creative life. Life purpose and an urge to create, and to express our gifts and talents go hand in hand. We are born with a strong desire to be creative and to create.
Exploring your life purpose uncovers the areas in which you have special creative abilities.
A creative life does not only include expressing traditional ideas of creativity such as painting, writing, or designing. Being creative also means approaching everything we do from a free-flowing, imaginative frame of mind. From raising children to saving money, everything we do can be done creatively. The more creative you can become in the everyday aspects of your life, the more your creative juices start flowing.
This will enable you to begin thinking of bigger and bolder means of creating new methods, new ideas, new models, and even new masterpieces. There is no one way of developing creativity, but all ways come from an open and curious mind and heart.
Let yourself dream, explore, experiment, and play. Sing, dance, get out in nature, listen to beautiful music, burn scented candles. Read, write, paint, sculpt, and dream some more. Try creative activities without worrying about technique, or trying to do it right. There is no right! Can you imagine if Picasso had worried about the traditional rules of art?
Play is one of the best ways of getting in touch with your creative side. Try running barefoot in a meadow, or even better, rolling down a hill, shrieking with laughter. Fingerpaint or go make mud pies. Take a child with you if it makes you feel less silly. Jump on your bed and forget worrying about damaging the mattress.
You need to rediscover your playful, innocent , joyful, creative nature. The childlike quality that we all possess, but most of us bury, is the essence of creativity.
To live a creative life, open up your mind to the unlimited possibilities in any task or situation. Try doing things differently.
If you always put the milk in your coffee first, try putting it in last. Or you could try using hot milk, soy milk, whipped cream, or drinking your coffee strong and black.
Mix up your clothes too. Is there any good reason why you should always wear a certain blue and red t-shirt with a particular pair of gray pants? Try a change.
Doing things in the same way all the time is a sure way of stifling creativity. It’s amazing how cycling to the train station in the morning rather than getting a ride with your spouse can shake up your sense of routine enough to get you thinking more creatively.
Trying quirky things too, is a wonderful way to stimulate your imagination. Go out walking in the rain, eat chocolate cake for breakfast, tell an elderly woman on the bus she has a beautiful smile.
Send yourself postcards, start reading a book from the back, and hang balloons on your front door just for fun. How about sticking glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling above your bed? Once you start thinking of creative ideas, you’ll find it hard to stop!
To really start living a creative life, think creatively about everything, not just ‘creative’ activities. Also, try as many creative activities as you can think of, and don’t worry about being ‘good at’ them- just enjoy! Play more, do things differently, and try doing some off-beat things you wouldn't normally do.
You are a creative person, you just need to let your creativity shine through, and it will light up your life.
